High Season - Low Morals

It's been a while...... My only excuse is the heat, and the late nights!! Big P & Mr M are constantly waking up me and Mrs Mills when they arrive home at 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning..... all flushed with excitement, and with tales to tell.....
A strange summer season, it seems. This credit crunch malarkey has clearly had its' impact on Molyvos, but thankfully for most it's not been as dire as predicted. As expected restaurants and bars appear to have fared better than the shops... but on the positive side the Dads tell me that regular customers have been as forthcoming as ever, and helped to keep things afloat, for now. Thankfully, at the bar, we've been fine this year - the usual mixture of regulars and newies from major European countries (UK, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Norway, Belgium, etc.) - it's been really nice to see so many local friends coming for an end-of-nighter. Particularly welcome are the increasing number of Greek tourists these past few weeks who have been seen imbibing my special sangria, a swift mojito, and enjoying classic videos by Paper Lace, etc. As usual - a few crazies - stand-up T-Shirt man!!!!!!!!!
Our biggest hits of the summer - sangria, margaritas( Lyn's favourite to prepare), mojitos, and of course, the old favourites Mythos, and a glass of white wine!!
Mr M looks like the tiredest man in the world at the moment, whilst Big P is trying to have his cake and eat it (more of that later).
Here are a few highlights........
  • T-Shirt man, much as we love you and the lovely (long-suffering Michelle), we are reporting you to the 'Celebrating Obesity as a Way of Life' people - for defamation......
  • Elliott, Lauren, Pam & the Other One - very funny, your back!!!! We don't believe you've been away - Big P's theory is that Tula at the Acropol kept you hostage in her subterranean chamber (under the pool) for the past 4 weeks until you finally admitted that you are not the perfect family after all - we understand she is to have her revelations published in a Greek scandal sheet.........
  • Of course some of you already know about the bloodbath that was broken bathroom window night.... A young man, under the influence, a window in the door to the toilet - the rest is history. A little MDF and a lick of paint rectified the practical problem - the blood took longer to eradicate. Nice young man re-appeared the following night to apologise, sporting what seemed to be only a small band-aid on his finger!!!!!!!
  • Several ad hoc Greek nights this summer - usually resulting in Lakis balancing a glass on his head in time-honoured fashion (only breaking one all season). The lovely Lyndsey leading a couple of traditional danced with friends, and impressing the hell out of everyone with her grace and charm!!
  • June's birthday - lots of dancing - not all graceful and charming!!!!!! But in good spirit and fun for all - the sisters, and lovely daughter great company, and admired by all. Bless June for being in the bar 20 minutes before noticing the large banner, and numerous balloons signifying the momentous occasion........
  • The Lothario is disappointingly low key this summer - having left his previous position he is now a key member of staff at Congas - and, of course, happily ensconced with beautiful lady!!!!! He manages occasional appearances to make Mr M mad with musical requests. His 17 September birthday should be wild, as we have ordered on line inflatable Black Eyed Pea Fergie...............
  • Arturo and lovely wife are frequent visitors - one memorable night with the whole family (Despina and little Nick), and Arturo's father from Oz, Uncle Nick the Knife, and others......
  • New Boys On The Block Pericles and Costa have been getting the girl's pulses racing..... mainly as they run away screaming - joking!! They good boys, great company, and the peanut thing has to be seen to be believed..
  • The mysterious G (aka Enrique Iglesias) has been in frequent attendance this Summer.... helping with serving, cleaning, and consumption of ursus and angostura bitters....
  • Brandon returned.............................................................
  • The Gravedigger and the pole dancer - what can we say - as lovely as ever (well, she particularly)..... We asked them to demonstrate their professions - installing the pole was no problem, but the floors are solid marble and he couldn't seem to make any inroads.....
  • Liz & Chris - my adoptive mums - why have you left me and Mrs Mills behind - don't you love us anymore - and poor Whitney's been at your door pining, for days........... OOOooooh, I need a gin!!!!!!

To all of you I've forgotten - tough - Mr M & Big P just didn't tell me, or it's too much for an old dog to take in....

More soon x

And what a journey- no calamaties as in previous years- the only two hiccups were 1. getting locked in the toilet at the services on the Piraeus-Patras road at 3am. Thought I was being subtle climbing over the door- only to find 2 perplexed cleaners the following morning wondering if someone was dead n there. Oopos!
2. sat nav Chris dropping off to sleep on the road from Dover, missing the M25 qnd spending 2 hours driving through the centre of friggng London- cor blimey Mrs.Beal! Missing you already! T=shirt man- dn't foret me. Frank Furta- please do and did Mr.Sangria of Chester ever get accepted onto the aircraft- god bless you Mrs.Sangria of Chester- your reward will be in heaven! Be good Molly and be Millie Millie- miss you Whitney. Oh yes- and you too Big P, Mr.Martin and young Lynn. This is Liz signing off at 8.25 am- 4 days after leaving Mytilene!! xx

Belated greetings from a gloriously sunny Bolton (I jest not).

Good to hear the recession hasn't been too calamitous for the good people of Molyvos (although it may help to thin out the number of jewellery shops!). Have another go at telling the lovely people at Meltemi they need to re-vamp the place. A new modern sign on the corner, a new logo and flowers in the baskets on the balcony would help to catch the eye of those who glance and think they're part of the giros outfit. Fingers crossed.

There's a whole blog to be written about "Big P is trying to have his cake and eat it" as there seemed to be a couple of "morceaux de gateau" around at different times during our stay. Molly, you will no doubt blog about this when only the crumbs remain.

The Bolton 9/11 (we're not terrorists just variable in number) enjoyed ourselves immensely once again. Thanks, in no small part, to the unending wit, sarcasm and salacious gossip from Big P and Mr M. Patrick, Viv and Lily were so exhausted by the experience they had to take themselves off to Spain for two weeks.

Hope you are enjoying the wind-down to the winter respite. Here in England's north we are entering the "Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness".

Best wishes for health and happiness to all!

Warwick (and Jill)
