Hi there blog people!!! It's been a while..... Finally it's winter, and Millie and I finally feel ready to reflect on a most interesting summer.
All the usual suspects - Brandon , the Boltons (inc. Miss Lily), the Hostys, Linda and Sue, Karen, Marianna , Caroline, Peter & Joelle, Lianne, Phil, Eileen, Liz & Chris, Stella, Linda F, the Barlows ........... Oh, the memories - the fun, the laughter - the blocked toilets!!!!!!

On balance a very good summer for the bar according to dads - lovely people, the best weather , Susan Boyle, & Staros Flatley!!!!!!!!!!

Local news - recent rearrangement in respect of living arrangements . Can't say I miss either of them - all that snoring, dribbling, etc . and Millie's not much better........... The spitaki is small and bijou , and I've already spotted a small furry red thing answering to the name of Bertie that has its' slippers under the table!!!!!!!!

Big P not been well - back in hospital with the piggie flu...... Becoming alarmingly attached to rear-ventilated hospital gowns......... All good now , though.

Bar not opening this winter after all - Big P not up to it, and Mr M busy trying to perfect a non-lumpy cheese sauce .. ... it could take some time....

Dads been to relaunched municipal cafenion few times - like very much.. . Angelos and Petra proving very popular this winter, and Ignati & Galini have upped their game, quality at a good price....... Dads also loving Traditional in Petra this winter............

Weather finally changed last couple days - this morning, strong winds, heavy rain, and looking forward to nasty windchill this weekend . Hope Mr M remembers how close to the wet ground litle Molly dogs are........... M x

High Season - Low Morals

It's been a while...... My only excuse is the heat, and the late nights!! Big P & Mr M are constantly waking up me and Mrs Mills when they arrive home at 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning..... all flushed with excitement, and with tales to tell.....
A strange summer season, it seems. This credit crunch malarkey has clearly had its' impact on Molyvos, but thankfully for most it's not been as dire as predicted. As expected restaurants and bars appear to have fared better than the shops... but on the positive side the Dads tell me that regular customers have been as forthcoming as ever, and helped to keep things afloat, for now. Thankfully, at the bar, we've been fine this year - the usual mixture of regulars and newies from major European countries (UK, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Norway, Belgium, etc.) - it's been really nice to see so many local friends coming for an end-of-nighter. Particularly welcome are the increasing number of Greek tourists these past few weeks who have been seen imbibing my special sangria, a swift mojito, and enjoying classic videos by Paper Lace, etc. As usual - a few crazies - stand-up T-Shirt man!!!!!!!!!
Our biggest hits of the summer - sangria, margaritas( Lyn's favourite to prepare), mojitos, and of course, the old favourites Mythos, and a glass of white wine!!
Mr M looks like the tiredest man in the world at the moment, whilst Big P is trying to have his cake and eat it (more of that later).
Here are a few highlights........
  • T-Shirt man, much as we love you and the lovely (long-suffering Michelle), we are reporting you to the 'Celebrating Obesity as a Way of Life' people - for defamation......
  • Elliott, Lauren, Pam & the Other One - very funny, your back!!!! We don't believe you've been away - Big P's theory is that Tula at the Acropol kept you hostage in her subterranean chamber (under the pool) for the past 4 weeks until you finally admitted that you are not the perfect family after all - we understand she is to have her revelations published in a Greek scandal sheet.........
  • Of course some of you already know about the bloodbath that was broken bathroom window night.... A young man, under the influence, a window in the door to the toilet - the rest is history. A little MDF and a lick of paint rectified the practical problem - the blood took longer to eradicate. Nice young man re-appeared the following night to apologise, sporting what seemed to be only a small band-aid on his finger!!!!!!!
  • Several ad hoc Greek nights this summer - usually resulting in Lakis balancing a glass on his head in time-honoured fashion (only breaking one all season). The lovely Lyndsey leading a couple of traditional danced with friends, and impressing the hell out of everyone with her grace and charm!!
  • June's birthday - lots of dancing - not all graceful and charming!!!!!! But in good spirit and fun for all - the sisters, and lovely daughter great company, and admired by all. Bless June for being in the bar 20 minutes before noticing the large banner, and numerous balloons signifying the momentous occasion........
  • The Lothario is disappointingly low key this summer - having left his previous position he is now a key member of staff at Congas - and, of course, happily ensconced with beautiful lady!!!!! He manages occasional appearances to make Mr M mad with musical requests. His 17 September birthday should be wild, as we have ordered on line inflatable Black Eyed Pea Fergie...............
  • Arturo and lovely wife are frequent visitors - one memorable night with the whole family (Despina and little Nick), and Arturo's father from Oz, Uncle Nick the Knife, and others......
  • New Boys On The Block Pericles and Costa have been getting the girl's pulses racing..... mainly as they run away screaming - joking!! They good boys, great company, and the peanut thing has to be seen to be believed..
  • The mysterious G (aka Enrique Iglesias) has been in frequent attendance this Summer.... helping with serving, cleaning, and consumption of ursus and angostura bitters....
  • Brandon returned.............................................................
  • The Gravedigger and the pole dancer - what can we say - as lovely as ever (well, she particularly)..... We asked them to demonstrate their professions - installing the pole was no problem, but the floors are solid marble and he couldn't seem to make any inroads.....
  • Liz & Chris - my adoptive mums - why have you left me and Mrs Mills behind - don't you love us anymore - and poor Whitney's been at your door pining, for days........... OOOooooh, I need a gin!!!!!!

To all of you I've forgotten - tough - Mr M & Big P just didn't tell me, or it's too much for an old dog to take in....

More soon x

Diversity Rules

Over one whole month has passed since I last blogged - apologies - so much has happened, I barely know where to begin....
The bar - well, considering the overwhelming odds against us all - credit crunch, etc. actually things are going quite well for us. It helps keeping things relatively cheap, of course.... the prices, not me.... The usual suspects:
Frank and Sheila departed minus his spectacles, but with a new found respect and understanding of the peculiarities of local business practice!
Thankfully American writer man helped us all to understand how in future our choices of dinner venue should be made. Ably assisted by Ms Moribund from Holland!!!
The dads are enjoying meeting lots of 'newies' to the island, as well as returning friends - special mention to Mel & Shaz (newly grandparented), and The Undertaker and the Pole Dancer (she the victim of tentative gropage courtesy of our very own Christian the Danish Cub!!!!!).
Left Of the Terrace is doing well with his new venture - Ignati's old giros shop, and Elpida is enjoying Lyn's best Caipirinha cocktails.
Arturo and lovely wife have enjoyed several evenings together in the bar - aah, wedded bliss!!!!
The Lothario is still remaining touchingly loyal to lovely girlfriend from Petra, and a certain learned fridge man has announced impending fatherhood....... Said fridge man recently repaired our beer fridge - temperature reduced from a temperate 9deg, to arctic minus 5.... a little more work needed, as not at all practical to leave the fridge door open all evening.
Big P been involved in a neighbourhood squabble about excessive noise - not ours, you understand - all sorted now, as Big P backed down for reasons for a distinctly 'yellow' hue!!!! Personally, I feel I should have been allowed to assist, as am well placed for ankle biting!!!
At home all much the same - now that Big P feeling little better. Some of you will know that Big P has been faking - - I mean, suffering, and was hospitalised recently in Mitlini - he was swiftly discharged after realising that Mitilini hospital is nothing like Holby City (nobody said Tachicardic once, apparently)....... Meanwhile Mr M went out to rent a scooter for a couple of months a week ago, and came back having purchased one instead. We are now a one car, two bike two dog, six cat family......................................
Oh, and of course, Mr M's brand new car has finally arrived - it's red and goes very fast!!!!!!!
Big P is adding two photos two the blog for me - one is of Dutch lady who danced on the bar top a couple of weeks ago. The other - who are you (that'll teach Big P to leave his phone unattended)?
See you soon..... M

Molly's Got Talent!

Where do the weeks go - it only seems like yesterday that the dad's opened the bar - 5 weeks of fun & frolics have passed already.........
So - the weather - after a quite grim start to the season, we've now got blue skies, mid twenties temps - lovely! Of course, this means that Big P has given me my first haircut of the summer..... anyone recall Jon Pertwee as Worzel Gummidge? Really!!! Millie in no need of cut just a new calorie counter!!!
It seems that Molyvos is a little quieter than usual, but still lots of lovely people 'round and about:
The Lothario in most nights, but comparatively subdued, having found love in unexpected places.....
Arturo hanging around, as always, looking mean, moody, and, well, meek! His mother made a welcome visit the other day, and seemed to enjoy the ample delight of Flavia from Britain's Got Talent (more later)....
Nick the Knife - the same as always - on his favourite stool in the corner - the master of all he surveys - his new musical requests - Hendrix Foxy Lady, Brian Ferry, Nilsson (all now playing currently)- can't fault his taste...
Left Of the Terrace in most nights - fresh (or rather, not) from his newly opened giros place)..
Lots of new local people coming regularly - the handsome owner of the Clara Beach Hotel, and friends. Roula and Stelios - Unchain My Heart!
Perry from Stipsi - leather clad - rippling biceps - no wonder J couldn't resist a quick fondle the other night.....
Dolph and Saskia, back, and on good form, and lovely Linda back on the ouzo and sprites.......
Bit of dancing the other night - it seems the Lothario persuaded Mr M onto a chair behind the bar - quite the belly dancer.... Big P was 'resting' with the lovely Lithuanians.......
Frank and Sheila here for a month - bless him, he's lost his glasses - keeps calling Big P 'Sheila' - had to put him straight right away...........................................
Den the hairdresser and Baz had a bit of a night of it - come on chaps, Metaxa's for sipping, not guzzling.
So - Britain's Got Talent - allegedly. The wondrous Susan Boyle even made it to the Greek television news - consequently there have been many request for that, and other clips - I understand it's quite odd to pass by our little bar on the edge of picturesque Molivos Harbour and here Simon Callow's dulcet tones. The afore-mentioned Clara Beach owner is obsessed - and we have a rare treat for him this week - Gregg the 'soprano boy'!!!!!!
And that's it for now - won't leave it so long next time
ps. any news about a local imminent foreclosure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A New Summer!!!!!

Hi there - apparently the Summer is nearly upon us. Millie and I can tell, because Big P & Mr M keep taking us down to the bar each day.... We have to sleep on the balcony while they bugger around with paint and plaster. Truly, Big P's hair is currently a fetching shade of pink ( the new wall colour - they say it's pale terracotta, but we all know differently). They seem inordinately proud of the new 'bar' area.... Don't know what the fuss is all about, a bit of metal, wood and lots of marble, and they think they've created the Sistine Chapel!!!!
Still, the main thing is, Molivos is looking great this year - plently of rain through the winter, so it's really green, lots of wild flowers. The sun's shining and, there's a discount on premium dog food in the agricultural shop in Kalloni - life can be beautiful.. Looking forward to seeing you all - will keep you posted - Molly Voss-Keane
