Flaming June
Dads tell me that the bar is doing quite well considering international financial crises (not that I am personally troubled - needing only a regular supply of pigs ears, walks, the occasional G & T, and regular administratuion of flea treatment to keep me happy - not exactly high maintenance).
Actually, Molivos in general has picked up considering the slow start, and global downturn - people are here, enjoying their holidays - eating & drinking, swimming & frolicking as usual.
I'll come to the bar in more detail shortly - home news first - Big P is currently suffering from a badly burnt back having rashly decided to clean the winter carpets on the terrace, in the blazing sun, rather than send them away to HioNati (Snow White) the dry cleaning man!!!!!! He is resting at home tonight with a tub of strawberry flavoured yoghurt smeared liberally over the affected parts!!!! Mr M is currently recovering from a nasty cold (human flu, I call it)... But, as always struggles on valiantly..... You will notice a new photo to the right featuring a number of cats (old Ernie to the right - only Eddie is missing) - you see what I have to put up with? And, I have to ask - why am I not allowed on the kitchen counter?
The bar & its' people:
- Romina & Danny have left - she still gorgeous - he failed techie (can anyone tell my dads how to secure the wi-fi network)? Miss them already!
- The ladies - aaaah - Big P misses them (you know who you are - born in 1944 - don't believe it..........
- Paul & Claire here with mum - Mr M worried about a sudden run on the little bottles of ouzo.....
- Chrissy & Terry - what can we say - class act!!!!! Oh and Big P thanks them for the newspapers.... They gone to Crete now with, I understand, a half-finished bottle of Metaxa secreted in her baggage - shame to waste it!!!!
- The Undertaker & Poledancer, aka The Gravedigger & Miss LA - currently undertaking a survey of the Molly's barperson with best Mojito making-skills - she would be best placed to judge, after all! Big P initially disappointed to be bottom of the league, but mysteriously rose to number one just last evening - could it be a pact, ensuring that he never reveals what the initials in Miss LA actually represent?!
- Unfortunate incident with balcony woman and the falling water - Nicos downstairs not best pleased - and rightly so - she appears to have had no recollection of the incident. The dads are now ever-vigilant about excess drippage.
- The Canadians have gone - what can we say - they bought youth and beauty into our lives, together with raucous singing, and a following cloud of local boys on motorbikes. We bought to them excessive amounts of sangria and Nektarios - a fair enough deal, we believe....
- The Hostys - aaaah, the Hostys - great company, and a depleted bottle of sambuca!!!!
- Local attendees too numerous to mention - but I'll try; Arturo and The Lothario, still low key; Pericles, still looking out for that one special woman (don't worry Peri, an old friend arrives on Saturday); Left of the Terrace, still arriving in a giros fug; Apostoli, still mad; Uncle Nick, still holding court in his own inimitable fashion (and still requesting the same obscure tracks from the sixties); Harilaus, loud; Costa, still good-humoured & quietly confident.
And now a special section devoted only to June, Laura and the sisters..... What can we say? A breath of fresh air - a glamorous addition to the bar, a fragrant presence....... and some dreadful singing..... Actually, I am reliably informed that their ensemble numbers were really rather good. And as for Laura ("no, really, you'll never get me singing") - what a revelation!!!! Seriously ladies, girls, whatever - we miss your zest for life - and look forward to seeing June in August (got a couple of solo numbers lined up for her).
So that's it then - another day - another post - another drachma. By the way Big P fully intending to write 'the book' of Molivos this winter - be afraid............ x x

Open Mic....
Big P's old cat (17 years old, and blind as a bat) , Ernie, has come to live with us recently (after some years in Janet & Carla's capable care) - I mean to say - he's a lovely old boy, and quite happy, but it can get on a dog's nerves, being constantly bumped into, when trying to grab 40 winks on the kitchen floor.....
The bar - decor changed - by accident - 'someone' got the wrong paint! Molly's is now strawberry coloured (orange, if you ask me) - tres chic!!!!! New blue chairs outside - and a new amplifier that cuts out usually at the busiest time in the evening - causing endless disputes between Mr M and Big P, and general amusement all 'round.......
The new amplifier brings with it a karao.... sorry - an 'open mic' function - hence endless late nights enjoyed to the refrain of Dancing Queen, and Nolan Sisters highlights!!!!! Just to add to the mix I am told by the dads that local people have embraced the new facility with wild abandon, frequently entertaining all with late night renditions of Ploutarxos, Alexiou, et al - thank you Apostoli, Tomas - don't give up the fridge repairs or fishing!!!!!!
Mr M & Big P insist we say hi to Ian & Eileen, Big Phil and Carolyn, Christine, Moira & Alan, and others too numerous to mention.... Currently in residence at a bar near me - the Undertaker and the Pole Dancer, Terry & Chrissy, Romina & Computer Boy!!!!!!
Locally , the usual suspects are in regular attendance - Left of the Terrace and Lovely wife, providing intelligent conversation; Arturo and lovely wife, providing cake and occasional moussaka ; Pericles, providing Greek lessons to all the ladies; Sofia and Apostoli, providing regular lunches to Mr M & Big P; Mr Clara, providing a little class; and a strangely subdued Lothario providing, well, very little this year.....
Sadly Lynn is not working this year - back in Blighty for a while. New Boy Nektarios is shaping up well, though - strangely popular with current batch of Canadian student girls - I understand from Big P that they virtually elbow him and Mr M out of the way to ensure service from NB Nek - who currently goes under the monicker 'eye candy' courtesy of Juney & her lovely sisters & daughter.
The season has been slow to start but everyone's doing their best, and despite the current economy (dog biscuits nearly doubled in price this year), prices have remained much the same as previously... Still, the ash cloud and the financial situation are being felt. The dad's feel very grateful to all the holidaymakers, and locals who are keeping my bar fun and lively (despite Gilly's unusual rendition of the Elton/Kiki classic, Don't Go Breaking My Heart)......
Lots of new music this year - Mr M has been a slave to Youtube - Beyonce, Lady GooGoo , Dizzee Rascal, Whitesnake, Motorhead, Ceryl Cole (Cheryl who?). Of course, Cliff Richard still available on request!!!!!!
So - due to 'circumstances I have been remiss with my posting, but have agreed a regular supply of G & T's on intravenous drip with Mr M and Big P, and will try to ensure a twice monthly up-date.
Love & dog-breath kisses, Molly x
ps. I am supposed to ask you all to bring any Sunday supplements with you, Marmite, and Hula Hoops - all for the dad's - what about me & Mrs Mills ( and cats: Sidney, Whitney, Eddie, Phoebe, Lil , Bert, and old Ernie)
Thursday, December 10, 2009
All the usual suspects - Brandon , the Boltons (inc. Miss Lily), the Hostys, Linda and Sue, Karen, Marianna , Caroline, Peter & Joelle, Lianne, Phil, Eileen, Liz & Chris, Stella, Linda F, the Barlows ........... Oh, the memories - the fun, the laughter - the blocked toilets!!!!!!
On balance a very good summer for the bar according to dads - lovely people, the best weather , Susan Boyle, & Staros Flatley!!!!!!!!!!
Local news - recent rearrangement in respect of living arrangements . Can't say I miss either of them - all that snoring, dribbling, etc . and Millie's not much better........... The spitaki is small and bijou , and I've already spotted a small furry red thing answering to the name of Bertie that has its' slippers under the table!!!!!!!!
Big P not been well - back in hospital with the piggie flu...... Becoming alarmingly attached to rear-ventilated hospital gowns......... All good now , though.
Bar not opening this winter after all - Big P not up to it, and Mr M busy trying to perfect a non-lumpy cheese sauce .. ... it could take some time....
Dads been to relaunched municipal cafenion few times - like very much.. . Angelos and Petra proving very popular this winter, and Ignati & Galini have upped their game, quality at a good price....... Dads also loving Traditional in Petra this winter............
Weather finally changed last couple days - this morning, strong winds, heavy rain, and looking forward to nasty windchill this weekend . Hope Mr M remembers how close to the wet ground litle Molly dogs are........... M x

High Season - Low Morals
A strange summer season, it seems. This credit crunch malarkey has clearly had its' impact on Molyvos, but thankfully for most it's not been as dire as predicted. As expected restaurants and bars appear to have fared better than the shops... but on the positive side the Dads tell me that regular customers have been as forthcoming as ever, and helped to keep things afloat, for now. Thankfully, at the bar, we've been fine this year - the usual mixture of regulars and newies from major European countries (UK, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Norway, Belgium, etc.) - it's been really nice to see so many local friends coming for an end-of-nighter. Particularly welcome are the increasing number of Greek tourists these past few weeks who have been seen imbibing my special sangria, a swift mojito, and enjoying classic videos by Paper Lace, etc. As usual - a few crazies - stand-up T-Shirt man!!!!!!!!!
Our biggest hits of the summer - sangria, margaritas( Lyn's favourite to prepare), mojitos, and of course, the old favourites Mythos, and a glass of white wine!!
Mr M looks like the tiredest man in the world at the moment, whilst Big P is trying to have his cake and eat it (more of that later).
Here are a few highlights........
- T-Shirt man, much as we love you and the lovely (long-suffering Michelle), we are reporting you to the 'Celebrating Obesity as a Way of Life' people - for defamation......
- Elliott, Lauren, Pam & the Other One - very funny, your back!!!! We don't believe you've been away - Big P's theory is that Tula at the Acropol kept you hostage in her subterranean chamber (under the pool) for the past 4 weeks until you finally admitted that you are not the perfect family after all - we understand she is to have her revelations published in a Greek scandal sheet.........
- Of course some of you already know about the bloodbath that was broken bathroom window night.... A young man, under the influence, a window in the door to the toilet - the rest is history. A little MDF and a lick of paint rectified the practical problem - the blood took longer to eradicate. Nice young man re-appeared the following night to apologise, sporting what seemed to be only a small band-aid on his finger!!!!!!!
- Several ad hoc Greek nights this summer - usually resulting in Lakis balancing a glass on his head in time-honoured fashion (only breaking one all season). The lovely Lyndsey leading a couple of traditional danced with friends, and impressing the hell out of everyone with her grace and charm!!
- June's birthday - lots of dancing - not all graceful and charming!!!!!! But in good spirit and fun for all - the sisters, and lovely daughter great company, and admired by all. Bless June for being in the bar 20 minutes before noticing the large banner, and numerous balloons signifying the momentous occasion........
- The Lothario is disappointingly low key this summer - having left his previous position he is now a key member of staff at Congas - and, of course, happily ensconced with beautiful lady!!!!! He manages occasional appearances to make Mr M mad with musical requests. His 17 September birthday should be wild, as we have ordered on line inflatable Black Eyed Pea Fergie...............
- Arturo and lovely wife are frequent visitors - one memorable night with the whole family (Despina and little Nick), and Arturo's father from Oz, Uncle Nick the Knife, and others......
- New Boys On The Block Pericles and Costa have been getting the girl's pulses racing..... mainly as they run away screaming - joking!! They good boys, great company, and the peanut thing has to be seen to be believed..
- The mysterious G (aka Enrique Iglesias) has been in frequent attendance this Summer.... helping with serving, cleaning, and consumption of ursus and angostura bitters....
- Brandon returned.............................................................
- The Gravedigger and the pole dancer - what can we say - as lovely as ever (well, she particularly)..... We asked them to demonstrate their professions - installing the pole was no problem, but the floors are solid marble and he couldn't seem to make any inroads.....
- Liz & Chris - my adoptive mums - why have you left me and Mrs Mills behind - don't you love us anymore - and poor Whitney's been at your door pining, for days........... OOOooooh, I need a gin!!!!!!
To all of you I've forgotten - tough - Mr M & Big P just didn't tell me, or it's too much for an old dog to take in....
More soon x

Diversity Rules
The bar - well, considering the overwhelming odds against us all - credit crunch, etc. actually things are going quite well for us. It helps keeping things relatively cheap, of course.... the prices, not me.... The usual suspects:
Frank and Sheila departed minus his spectacles, but with a new found respect and understanding of the peculiarities of local business practice!
Thankfully American writer man helped us all to understand how in future our choices of dinner venue should be made. Ably assisted by Ms Moribund from Holland!!!
The dads are enjoying meeting lots of 'newies' to the island, as well as returning friends - special mention to Mel & Shaz (newly grandparented), and The Undertaker and the Pole Dancer (she the victim of tentative gropage courtesy of our very own Christian the Danish Cub!!!!!).
Left Of the Terrace is doing well with his new venture - Ignati's old giros shop, and Elpida is enjoying Lyn's best Caipirinha cocktails.
Arturo and lovely wife have enjoyed several evenings together in the bar - aah, wedded bliss!!!!
The Lothario is still remaining touchingly loyal to lovely girlfriend from Petra, and a certain learned fridge man has announced impending fatherhood....... Said fridge man recently repaired our beer fridge - temperature reduced from a temperate 9deg, to arctic minus 5.... a little more work needed, as not at all practical to leave the fridge door open all evening.
Big P been involved in a neighbourhood squabble about excessive noise - not ours, you understand - all sorted now, as Big P backed down for reasons for a distinctly 'yellow' hue!!!! Personally, I feel I should have been allowed to assist, as am well placed for ankle biting!!!
At home all much the same - now that Big P feeling little better. Some of you will know that Big P has been faking - - I mean, suffering, and was hospitalised recently in Mitlini - he was swiftly discharged after realising that Mitilini hospital is nothing like Holby City (nobody said Tachicardic once, apparently)....... Meanwhile Mr M went out to rent a scooter for a couple of months a week ago, and came back having purchased one instead. We are now a one car, two bike two dog, six cat family......................................
Oh, and of course, Mr M's brand new car has finally arrived - it's red and goes very fast!!!!!!!
Big P is adding two photos two the blog for me - one is of Dutch lady who danced on the bar top a couple of weeks ago. The other - who are you (that'll teach Big P to leave his phone unattended)?
See you soon..... M
